Research Grants

The application process is open October 1 - November 1, 2021.

ELIGIBILITY

This award is intended for basic, clinical, or outcomes research related to liver disease. Applicants must be doing research in Pennsylvania and be affiliated with an established University or hospital.

Students, residents, fellows, nurses, physician extenders, and faculty are eligible. Community Liver Alliance Board and Scientific review committee members and current awardees are NOT eligible.

FUNDING PERIOD

January 1, 2022- December 31, 2022

STIPEND

This is a one-year award of $25,000. The funds can be used for either salary or direct research expense support but must be expended solely for the sponsored research project. No indirect costs will be covered.

COMMITTEE REVIEW

The deadline for submission of applications is November 1, 2021 at 5:00 PM EST. Applications should be emailed to Suzanna Masartis. Applications will be reviewed by the Community Liver Alliance Research Scholarship Committee. The successful applicant winner will be notified by email in December 2021.

AWARDEE PRESENTATION

The awardee will be expected to summarize the research at a Community Liver Alliance Board meeting in 2022 (date to be provided).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The application proposal shall be confined to 3 pages (Times Roman, 11 font, 1” margins) including Specific AIMs, Background and Significance, Preliminary Data, and Research Design and Methods. Figures and Tables must be included within the 3-page proposal. Your name should appear at the top of the first page along with the title of the proposal. References shall be limited to 1 additional page. An additional 1-page (or less) budget justification should be provided documenting how the funds will be spent. The proposal must have accompanying CIACUC/IRB approval for animal/human research, respectively.

  • An NIH bio sketch of the applicant (and mentor, if applicable) must be included with the proposal. (sample at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/forms/biosketch.htm).
  • The proposal must also be approved by the research department at the applicant’s institution.
  • An invoice must be presented to the Community Liver Alliance from the awardee’s institution to receive the check.
  • An end of year project report is due by January 30, 2023.
